The Style File -The Women.s Guide to Staying Cool
The Women.s Guide to Staying Cool and Looking Hot this Summer
Good
news for all you nutcrackers out there . ballet flats
are making a huge comeback as the shoe to have for this summer. And
why not? They.re light, comfortable, and cheap enough that you can
buy one for each outfit of the week.
If
you want your flats - or any other piece of clothing, really - to stand
out for all the right reasons this season, then get them with metallic
sequins. Or try some metallic colours. In a sure sign that
robots are in fact taking over human life, metallics are everywhere
this summer, from dresses to camisoles to yes, your new-favourite ballet
flats. It seems you fashionistas just couldn.t wait until fall to
bust out the metallic, huh? Ahh well. Since when does anyone ever wait
until fall anyways?
Of
course that doesn.t mean you should be trading the warmth of summer
for the cold of metallics. Tiny Jewels and floral accents
are cropping up in almost every designer.s summer collections. And
someone must have decided it was time to bring ColourBack, because
primary colours in their most intense hues are riding high like
a pre-Kabala Madonna. At the top of the heap, though, lies two contenders
for America.s Next Top Colour . yellow and turquoise. No
matter who wins, expect purple to trump them both next fall. Of course
the ubiquitous black and white remains as hot as ever, thanks
to the conservative New York catwalk. I swear, that city may never sleep,
but its runways sure take an awful lot of catnaps.
Those
looking for a look that.s more East Village than Midtown will be happy
to hear that knit patterns with polka dots, triangles, and moons
are very in this summer, should you feel the need to channel your inner
Gypsy Woman. Readers not old enough to know what osteoporosis
is will be happy to find that last fall.s punk invasion has been tamed,
as it were, by the spring.s prep renaissance, resulting in a punk-meets-prep
look that.ll have you putting one middle finger in the air and the
other on a schooner.s sail. Think varsity ties and safety pins
on one of this season.s hottest striped polos and you have the
right idea. Also, layers with delicate details like bows and
peek-a-boo bras are huge for everyone this season, whether your
style channels Avril Lavigne or Dolly Parton. Finally, skinny cotton,
silk, or denim pants are also universally adored this season .
I swear, these babies make more comebacks than Kylie Minogue could ever
dream of.
There
are a ton of opportunities for summer fashion fun this year, so be creative
and mix it up with these looks. Just remember to exercise caution when
getting dressed after a long day sunbathing by the pool.s wet bar.
And
remember orange wasn.t one of this season.s hot colours. Also not
in style this summer: melanoma. So wear sunscreen people!
Oh,
and until next time, keep on stylin..
